Do Your Own PRE-inspection: Here are some tips about what homebuyers should look for before making an offer.

Preparing for the Worst and Hoping For the Best: Hurricanes are rare in Vallarta, but they happen. Being prepared for them will help you enjoy your time in Paradise.

Childproofing: If the grandkids are visiting this year, or you rent your place to families, here are some tips to help keep the kids safe.

What Your Home Wants You to Know: The very first thing that Canadians and Americans learn when they come here to live is: We've been spoiled. Most Mexicans get by on a lot less, and with thinner margins of safety than most gringos are used to, -especially around the house.

Now You Can Hire a Home Inspector: Buying a home in a foreign country can be harrowing. Sure, real estate generally costs less here than in the US and Canada, but it's still expensive. Mexican construction, laws, and customs are so very different from Canada and the US, that the risk often feels magnified to gringos Even Mexicans buying real estate in their own country aren't always familiar enough with construction to know just what they're getting themselves in to.

Your Questions, Our Answers: Everything is just a little different here in Vallarta, so it’s no surprise that houses are, too. Here are the most common questions our clients have for us, and our answers.

Termites: Simply mentioning the word makes homebuyers cringe. Termites live in nearly every state in the US, most of the Canadian provinces, and they are constantly spreading northward.

How to Find Your Home Inspector: Buying a vacation home is a major financial decision that can dramatically improve your quality of life. In the US and Canada, most people hire a professional home inspector to evaluate a property they are interested in before they actually purchase it.

Electricidad: The very first thing that Canadians and Americans learn when they come here to live is: We’ve been spoiled. Most Mexicans have been getting by (some quite well) on far less than what we’re used to. So, it should come as no surprise that your average Mexican electrical system is smaller than what we have come to expect at home.

Smart Moves: Just about everyone who visits Puerto Vallarta falls in love with it, and chances are good that if you’re reading this article, you have too. So many tourists come back for longer and more frequent visits, that after a while they start to wonder: “If we’re going to keep visiting Vallarta each year, doesn’t it make more sense to buy a property, instead of rent?”

Traveling to Vallarta: A big part of Puerto Vallarta ’s charm is that everyone comes here in search of something a little different, and we all seem to find just what we’re looking for. If you or someone you know is thinking of visiting us here in beautiful Puerto Vallarta , here’s what I suggest.

Keeping Cool: Winter in Vallarta is about as nice as it can be: warm, sunny days and clear, cool nights. We love to call our little corner of the world ‘ Paradise ’ but with September’s heat and humidity, it can feel more like Hell. I am in awe of the folks who lived in this part of the world before the invention of air conditioning, ice, and draft beer.

Travel Insurance: I’m personally not a big advocate of insurance in general. I hate paying for it, and I’m probably woefully under-insured by industry standards. Somewhere in my genetic code, there is a gene that is deeply offended by the notion of paying money to protect yourself against a bunch of what-if’s. Most of the time, I’d just rather take my chances.
